Have you ever seen your child spend too much time on video games and sports, and not enough on their assignments? Do you often find yourself procrastinating till the last minute to keep the boss’s deadline? Don’t we always complain we just never find the time to exercise, or pick up that unfinished book? Hey, it’s not that we’re lazy! We just don’t quite know the skill of managing time.
So What is Time Management?
Time Management is the art of dividing time between specific activities to perform them more effectively.
When the time is limited and pressures are high, having this skill proves to be extremely helpful. Times have changed now, the demand from the students is increasing with time because the expectations are expanding. If they want to be successful, then they are expected to be multitaskers! We expect them to be all rounders, but how much are we helping them to achieve all their goals within the desired time?
It is essential to accept that the pressure can’t be suppressed indefinitely, but the management of time can help, as it increases the productivity of students at the same time. It is just not about managing the time, but there are many other factors that this process is made of!
- Setting the Goals Right:
Every student must know what they desire out of life. If they don’t set their goals right, then there’s no purpose in working hard on the things which they don’t want to do, as it won’t get them anywhere far in life.
- Prioritize the important tasks:
Your child must know which tasks are valuable to them at the present moment. It will give them the vital clarity on which tasks they need to focus on first.
When the students get to know their priorities right, then it becomes easier for them to make decisions in a much quicker way which leads to effective time management.
- Problem Solving:
The approach towards actions should be problem-solving rather than “do it all”. This facet of time management gives the confidence to the students that they can achieve their particular tasks while multitasking.
- Schedule the tasks:
This is the most important skill set required in time management! Scheduling the tasks makes the students focus on the particular activity they need to do efficiently. They can perform tasks efficiently at the same time hassle-free.
- Understand that breaks are also important:
It is so easy to get carried away when you are scheduling your tasks. It’s a virtual guarantee that all of us get overambitious and then discontinue halfway due to mental burnout. It is important to take rest in regular intervals, you can sleep, jog, meditate, or play your favourite game during that time, as long as you duly come back to your work!
After knowing why time management is so vital, especially in student’s lives, it’s implied that this skill should be learned immediately. But it also depends on how effectively you incorporate it into your lifestyle. It makes you more focused, balanced, efficient, and clear in your thought process!
